Connection comparison
I’m testing the connection from the Play operator. I put the SIM card into my outdoor modem MikroTik ATL LTE18.
Play
Play tower is 2.4km from my home and it offers highest frequency bandwith at 2600 Mhz. It lies on the hill around small villages around. I tested the connection speed on speedtest.pl for differnet times of day. Download speed is ~40Mb/s, ~15Mb/s upload. From Play the connection is sometimes unreachable and I need to wiat few minutes to get connected again. In overall the connection is good for daily basis. I set the modem in the direction of the tower cell with high precision by calculating azimuth.
Orange
The Orange tower is located 2.7km from my home and it offers highest frequency bandwith at 2100Mhz. It lies on the hill close to high speed road that many cars are passing next to and small villages are loacted around. I tested the connection speed on speedtest.pl for differnet times of day. Download speed is ~90Mb/s, ~40Mb/s upload. From Orange the connection is clear I don’t have almost any gaps in connection or I didn’t noticed slow connection. I set the modem in the direction of the tower cell with medium precision just by my sight.
Question
Looking from teoreticall perspective the Play should have better results their tower is closer and they have higher frequencies. But I don’t know why the connection from Play is so unstable and slow. Is it because of bad orientation of the transmitters in relation to my modem? Is it because of the overcrowded load that the tower carries? If it is problem of overcrowded channels maybe there are ways to improve the connection by some improvents in WinBox configuration for my MikroTik device?
Public IP without CGNAT
Orange serves the ips to most clients using CGNAT (Carrier-Grade NAT) because of lack of IPv4 addresses. I can buy the clean public address without ISP NAT for about 4zł per month (dynamic). It would be convienient for Moonlight Sunshine, Self Hosting, IoT, cameras access and so one. Drawback is that it also removes one layer of Security, easier access to my LAN.
